FAQ’S
What is powder coating? It is a process that electrostatically charges very fine powdered plastic, which is applied to metal and baked in an oven to cause the coating to melt, flow, and then cure. Different types of plastics are used for different functions, such as epoxy is used for appliances, file cabinets, etc. While polyester is used for lawn mowers, motorcycle frames, and car wheels.
What colors can I get? Any color you want, however… while paint can be tinted at the store for you, powder can’t! It is made to exacting specifications at the manufacturer’s facility. So we have a wide range of “stock” colors, with an even larger range of “custom” colors. And while color matching is available, it is rather expensive unless you plan to shoot a lot of it.
Paint vs. powder Powder coating has no solvents, minimal voc’s, and is harder and more durable than paint. So most manufactures use it for their products. However, the limit is generally the size of the oven to cure it. So while car frames and wheels are a great candidate for powder coating, a 747 jet would be a wee bit problematic.
What other types of coating do you do? We also offer piston coating, and dry film lube coating for engine and other applications.
